Instant Pot Blueberry Lemon Infused Water

I’ve been trying to drink more water but drinking plain old water gets boring. I’ve been looking for ways to help flavor it up without adding too much junk to it. Enter infused water in the instant pot. Super easy to make and it tastes delicious (bonus cat approved).


  • 1 cup frozen (or fresh) blueberries
  • 2 slices of lemon
  • 5 cups of water


  1. Place blueberries and lemon into instant pot. Pour in water.
  2. Place cover on.
  3. Set to high pressure for 5 minutes.
  4. Once finished, do quick release.
  5. Strain into another container using a fine mesh sieve.
  6. Let cool or place over ice.

Haikan in DC

Went adventuring today and almost walked passed @haikandc. What started out as a taco-venture turned into a ramen one and it was delicious. The crispy pork belly was spicy and sweet. The cucumber and watermelon added texture as well as provided a nice refreshing sweetness to pair with the spice. The small shoyu and the large spicy shoyu were both delicious. That egg was cooked perfectly.

Apartment Sessions

The video series “Apartment Sessions” on YouTube consists of a group of roommates clearing out their apartment to make room for a full orchestra, releasing a new video or two every month. This month they tackled “Wake Up” by Arcade Fire. Their neighbors also let them host part of the group in their apartment because of the size of the orchestra.

Wow. Mind blown. It’s a beautiful and awe-inspiring arrangement that really shows the meaning of community and neighborliness.

Thrilled to share our biggest session yet as we test the boundaries of apartment-recording; this time featuring our neighbors (Instant Treeline), who graciously and consistently offer their space and gear, and never once complain about the noise. Community starts with neighborhood, and it means so much to be recording this song with these folks, almost a decade after blasting this record in Evan’s car while driving through Atlanta, dreaming of having a giant band like Arcade Fire, but unable to imagine the beautiful, talented, diverse and committed group of people that have somehow made their way to and from our apartment. Thank you, truly, to everyone who makes this community possible.

Pizza CS in Rockville, MD

Headed back to Pizza CS in Rockville, one of my favorite pizza spots in the DMV, to fulfill a pizza craving. I always have a hard time choosing toppings because I love them all, but ended up trying the Capri (mozzarella, ham, mushroom, olive, artichoke, basil) and the Jonny (parmesan cream, ricotta, mozzarella, ham, and basil). Guess the theme for tonight was ham! I love the flavor of the artichokes and kalamata olives so the Capri is generally a favorite. The Jonny was a new one for me and I think it now outranks the Capri. I loved how simple it was but still packed a lot of flavor.

Banana Bread 2018

Who doesn’t love banana bread? It requires very little effort and it tastes amazing.

We made some the other day with the following recipe.


  • 2-3 ripe bananas, peeled
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour


  1. Preheat oven to 350º F
  2. Butter a 4×8 loaf pan
  3. In mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth. Stir the melted butter in.
  4. Mix in the baking soda and salt. Stir in sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Mix in the flour.
  5. Pour the batter into loaf pan. Bake for 50 minutes, or until a tester comes out clean.
  6. Remove from oven and let cool before removing from pan.

San Diego 2018

San Diego was my home for a small chunk of my life. I experienced many firsts there–driving on the highway like a maniac, sushi, dipping my toes into the Pacific Ocean, superb Mexican food as well as fast Mexican favorites carne asada fries and the California burrito. Going back was an interesting experience for a number of reasons but I think the most interesting was how much it had changed, and how much busier it was.

I spent Saturday morning resting after my six hour flight. I had the chance to ride First Class so I had extra leg room. I still had some pretty swollen legs despite begin able to stretch out a bit more than normal. However, it was a pretty exciting experience. On Saturday evening, we took the ferry to Coronado and ate at Peohe’s.

On Sunday morning we switched to Hotel Indigo for the remainder of our stay. Our hotel room wasn’t ready but we were able to leave our luggage with the hotel staff and went in search of breakfast. We decided on Cafe 222. It was pretty delicious.

After breakfast, we wondered around a bit. I tried an electric scooter for the first time and had a pretty great experience–anything that doesn’t result in a broken/sprained appendage is a great experience.

We venture to the USS Midway Museum to take in the harbor as well as a history lesson. We spent time touring the museum and taking in the breeze. I didn’t realize how much I had missed the smell of the ocean until I stood on the deck of the USS Midway and took it all in.

Food and Drink

Carne Asada Fries – I used to eat these several times a week so one of the things I was looking forward to was scarfing some down. I tracked down a Roberto’s and quickly ordered them. They were delicious and I wish I could have taken some home with me.

Half Door Brewing Company – This brewery happened to be across the street from our hotel so we stopped in one night since we didn’t quite feel like heading to bed. The beer was awesome but the highlight for me was the Impossible Burger. It really does taste, fell, smell, bleed, etc. like a burger. I’ve become obsessed with them.

The obligatory stop at In N Out – My usual is a double double and fries, both animal style.

Ballast Point – I had to check out Ballast Point’s taproom while I was in town. The beer was, of course, delicious. The wings, not so much. Beers tried: Wahoo White, Tart Peach Kölsch, Moscow Mule Ale, Sour Wench Blackberry Ale, Sea Rose.

Old Town

Old Town is the first part of San Diego. It’s a weird place to be. You can see the airport from parts of Old Town, planes fly overhead often. The highway runs right past it. The first Wells Fargo in San Diego is inside the limits of Old Town and you can take money out of an ATM there.

La Jolla Cove

La Jolla Cove is beautiful. It’s protected so the water is clear and clean. It’s a pretty well known snorkeling spot. The sea lions and seals are friendly, they are used to the people there and will let humans get pretty close.

Coronado Island

We underestimated how cold it would be on the water so we had to stop and buy hoodies at a souvenir shop. Despite the cold, we made it to the beach just after sunset. We stayed until it grew dark.

Ocean Beach

On our last day in San Diego I wanted to relax. We ended up at Ocean Beach. I sat with my toes in the sand and jus
